Pick a detective agency, set how long they work the streets, choose how many gumshoes you send out, and tell them which gangster to sniff out. The longer the job and the busier the agency, the more it’ll drain your wallet. You want the whole country under a microscope, you’re going to pay country-sized bills.
Once the papers are signed and the cash is gone, your cases move into three places:
Tracked Targets
These are the people your detectives already managed to pin down. You see their name, rank, family, city, and how long their location stays visible. Sometimes it says they’re “searching again”, that means the target slipped the tail for a bit, so you only see the last known spot until the boys catch up again.
Active Investigations
These are the jobs still cooking. The detectives are out there asking questions, greasing hands, reading mail that isn’t theirs. No city info yet, just time remaining and who the target is. When the job hits, it either turns into a tracked target or fades if it runs out. You can cancel any investigation if you decide the heat isn’t worth the cash anymore.

What exactly does a detective do?
A detective tracks a single gangster for you. First they run an investigation. When that hits, you see where the target is. For a while after that, you keep getting updated locations until the timer runs out or you stop paying to extend it.
Do more detectives on one target help?
Yeah. More detectives means more man-hours, more eyes, more chances they get a solid read on your target faster and more often. It also makes the job more expensive. You get what you pay for in this line of work.
Why does the price change per agency?
Each agency has its own reputation, workload, and risk. If they are flooded with cases, costs climb. If they’re quiet, you get a better deal. You’re not paying for a name on the door, you’re paying for how much heat they can handle.
What does “Visible for X minutes” really mean?
That’s your window. During that time, detectives keep feeding you fresh locations for that target. When it runs out, the tail is cold. You either extend the tracking by buying more hours, or accept that your mark just walked back into the fog.
Why does it sometimes say “Searching again..”?
That means your detectives lost the trail for a moment. Maybe the target changed city, maybe they went underground, maybe they’re using back doors. You still see the last known place, but the next update will only come after the delay timer runs down.
What is the “rank warning” next to a name?
That’s the system telling you the person you’re snooping on is out of your weight class. High-rank gangsters don’t like being watched, and starting something with them can bring the kind of trouble you can’t pay off with pocket change.
Can my target see they are being tracked?
Officially, no. Unofficially, anyone who sees trouble arriving a little too on time might start asking questions. Detectives do their job in the shadows, but the fallout from using their intel is always loud.
Can I cancel an investigation or tracking early?
Yeah. You can pull the plug any time using the cancel buttons. The detectives stop working that file and move on. The money you already spent stays gone, though. Nobody refunds time spent staring through blinds.
Why would I ever stop using detectives?
Maybe the target’s too strong, maybe the family backing them is bigger than your ego, maybe you just got what you needed and don’t want your name on more paperwork. Detectives are powerful tools, but every report they generate is another move you’re responsible for. Use them when it matters.
