The Origins
Every city is built on stories.
Some are written in newspapers. Others survive only in whispers, passed between people who know better than to ask too many questions. Those stories rarely speak about heroes. They speak about ambition, loyalty, fear and the price that comes with power.
Pentito was born from those whispers. The word itself refers to someone who breaks the code of silence. Someone who chooses truth over loyalty, even when that truth comes at the highest possible cost. Within organised crime, becoming a pentito was never simply about speaking. It meant leaving behind a life, a family and often the only identity you had ever known.
That conflict fascinated us far more than the violence itself. Because organised crime has never truly been about guns or money. It has always been about people. About trust slowly earned over years and destroyed in a single moment. About friendships becoming rivalries, alliances shifting overnight and impossible decisions made under impossible circumstances.
Those themes became the foundation of Pentito. Not as a historical recreation, but as inspiration for building a living world where every player writes their own story.
Every family begins somewhere. Every empire eventually falls. And every legend starts with one decision.
Why We Built Pentito
Like many players, we grew up during the golden age of browser games. Games where the world never paused. Where checking your account before school actually mattered. Where friendships were formed through text instead of voice chat, and rivalries could last for years.
Those games had something modern games often struggle to recreate.
Persistence. The world continued whether you were online or not.
Victories felt earned because hundreds of people shared the same world and shaped it together. Over the years we watched many of those communities slowly disappear. Some games stopped evolving. Others became dominated by monetisation or abandoned entirely. Rather than waiting for someone else to build the browser game we wanted to play, we decided to build it ourselves.
Pentito is our answer to that question.
What would a modern browser-based mafia strategy game look like if it were designed today, without forgetting everything that made the genre special in the first place?
The World We Wanted To Create
From the beginning, our goal was never to build a collection of features. Features alone do not create memorable games. Worlds do. Every system inside Pentito exists because it supports the illusion that the city continues to exist long after you close your browser.
Businesses continue trading. Families continue planning. Wars continue escalating. Prices continue changing. Opportunities appear and disappear. The city never waits for anyone. That philosophy influences every decision we make. We want players to feel as though they are stepping into an existing world rather than opening another menu filled with buttons.
When someone remembers Pentito years from now, we hope they won't remember a specific statistic or mechanic. We hope they remember the family they built.
Independence
Pentito is developed independently by a small team that believes creative freedom is one of the most valuable things a game studio can have. There are no publishers deciding what should be added next. No investors pushing for aggressive monetisation. No quarterly targets demanding features simply because they increase short-term revenue.
That independence allows us to make decisions differently. Sometimes it means spending months improving systems most players never consciously notice. Sometimes it means redesigning mechanics simply because they are not good enough. Sometimes it means saying no to ideas that might make more money but would make the game less enjoyable.
For us, long-term trust is worth more than short-term profit.
We hope players notice the difference.
Looking Forward
Pentito is not a finished world. In many ways, it is only beginning. Every round teaches us something new. Every update changes the shape of the city. Every player leaves a mark on the future of the game.
Years from now we hope Pentito is still growing, still surprising people and still creating stories that could never have been scripted.
Because in the end, that has always been the goal. Not simply to build another browser game. But to build a world that players remember long after they've logged out.
Responsibility and Safety
Pentito is designed for players aged 16 and older. We take digital wellbeing seriously and encourage balanced play.
Our game contains themes of crime, betrayal, and power struggles, all purely fictional. No real-world violence is encouraged, glorified, or tolerated in our community.
We operate independently, without external influence. If you ever feel that your experience is affecting your wellbeing, we support cool-downs, timeouts, and temporary account restrictions on request.
